This course will provide you with an understanding of the issues faced by families at the point of diagnosis and how to communicate with confidence, empathy and understanding.

Who should attend?

Suitable for those working in health or social care, and those working with families in children's hospices.

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the issues faced by families from the point of diagnosis.
  • Recognise when and how loss is experienced by families where there is a child or young person with a life-limiting condition and complex needs.
  • Understand anticipatory grief and its impact on the family.
  • Develop your active listening skills and manage challenging conversations.
  • Develop an awareness of the challenges of the work and the importance of looking after yourselves.
  • Gain information about Child Bereavement UK, other similar support organisations and resources.

Cost: £45

We encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Our training is not usually suited to anyone who has suffered a recent, significant personal loss or bereavement.
