Celebrities Claudia Winkleman and Rory Bremner represented Child Bereavement UK at the annual BGC Charity Day on 11th September. They joined dozens of other big-name stars who took over the trading floor at BGC Partners, Inc. in Canary Wharf for one day only, to raise millions of pounds for charitable causes.

BGC and its affiliated companies host Charity Day in commemoration of BGC’s 658 colleagues and the 61 Eurobrokers employees who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001.

100% of global revenues raised on the day are donated to participating charities and the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund. Now in its 14th year, BGC Charity Day has raised over $147 million globally to date.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman took to the trading floor for the morning session and proved to be a solid ‘ten’ as she sealed the deal. Commenting on the day, Claudia said:

I’m delighted to have represented Child Bereavement UK at the BGC Charity Day. Taking part in the trades and meeting representatives of the charity was fantastic. I’m extremely proud to be associated with Child Bereavement UK, the work they do to help rebuild lives is extraordinary.

The afternoon session saw impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner making an impression on BGC staff as he recruited ‘Donald Trump’ and ‘Boris Johnson’ to help with his trades. He later tweeted:

Crazy time trading at BGC Charity Day for Child Bereavement UK – great charity!

Child Bereavement UK Chief Executive, Ann Chalmers, said:

Child Bereavement UK is so grateful to Claudia and Rory for representing the charity and being such good sports. We would also like to thank BGC for choosing Child Bereavement UK as one of several beneficiary charities for a second year; we are honoured to be part of this important day remembering those who died at the World Trade Center. The BGC Charity Day helps Child Bereavement UK raise much-needed funds and awareness, enabling us to provide support to families when a child grieves and when a child dies, so they can begin to rebuild their lives.

Notes for Editors

1. Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement. Every year we train more than 9000 professionals helping them to better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

In the UK, when a baby or child dies, or a child is bereaved, many of those affected are unable to access good quality support which meets their individual needs. Child Bereavement UK believes all families should have the support they need to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. Our aim is to make sure they do.
