MARY BERRY REPRESENTED CHILD BEREAVEMENT UK on September 11^th by joining personalities from the world of film, sport, TV, fashion and music to take part in an annual Charity Day held at the offices of BGC Partners (BGC) in Canary Wharf. It is the company’s 13th annual BGC Charity Day which commemorates the 658 Cantor and 61 Eurobrokers employees who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001.

Over the past 12 years, BGC Charity Day has raised more than $137 million for good causes around the world, by asking personalities to conduct trades alongside licensed BGC brokers in support of their respective charities. Mary Berry proved to be a tough cookie on the trading floor, charming the brokers to make sure her deals ‘got a good rise.’

Mary Berry is a Patron of Child Bereavement UK, which will receive a share of the funds raised on the day, alongside a range of other charities. The charity supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.

Bereaved families supported by Child Bereavement UK were invited to join in the fun, and took part in the Paddington Bear themed activities laid on by BGC for the families helped by the various charities.

Charlie, aged 13 and Emilee, aged 12, who have been supported by Child Bereavement UK following the death of their Mum in 2016, experienced first-hand the exhilarating hustle and bustle of the trading floor. Dad, Lee, said:

It’s been a fantastic day! We took photos with many celebrities,the kids had their faces painted and played table tennis, followed by lunch…we have been treated like royalty for the day! Thank you very much for the invitation.

Child Bereavement UK’s Chief Executive, Ann Chalmers, said:

It was wonderful to be represented by our Patron, Mary Berry, who was a great sport and proved to be a natural on the trading floor too!

We are incredibly grateful to BGC for choosing Child Bereavement UK as one of their beneficiary charities. It is a very positive way to remember those who died at the World Trade Center by raising funds for good causes, and we are privileged to be a part of it. The day will be a great boost in helping us to raise much-needed funds and awareness, to ensure that we can support many more families to help them begin to rebuild their lives after bereavement.
