New bereavement service for Glasgow hospital

Child Bereavement UK is pleased to have been appointed to provide a new service at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow. The service will offer bereavement support to parents facing or following the death of their baby or child. It will also provide training for hospital staff to improve their skills in caring for parents and siblings of a dying child, as well as offering support to staff who are affected by the death of a child within the maternity, paediatric, neonatal and A&E environments.

Child Bereavement UK, which has been supporting bereaved families and training professionals for 23 years, was awarded the three-year contract by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) to deliver the new service, funded by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

In addition to its national helpline, Child Bereavement UK offers face-to-face bereavement support in various locations across the UK. The charity also established a new service in 2016 in Maryhill, Glasgow, with funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, offering direct support to children, young people and their families, as well as advice and guidance to schools and other professionals.
