3 April 2018

This week, Busy Bees nurseries across the UK will hold an Elephant’s Tea Party to launch its partnership with charity, Child Bereavement UK, which will run until 2020.

The Elephant’s Tea Party is the charity’s bereavement awareness initiative, which uses the symbol of an elephant and the theme ‘an elephant never forgets’ and ‘an elephant in the room’ to help children understand bereavement in an age-appropriate way.

Children and staff will be raising money by making elephant masks, decorating elephant themed cakes and taking part in fun, creative activities to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age passes away, or when a child is facing bereavement. The charity also trains professionals such as doctors, teachers and midwives to help them better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

Marg Randles, Founder and Chief Academic Officer, Busy Bees said:

In 2018 we have chosen to work together with Child Bereavement UK, an incredible charity that works to give families the support they need to rebuild their lives after bereavement – a cause close to our hearts. In our role as early years caregivers, we know that bereavement is extremely difficult for a child to understand and can have a significant impact on their development. That’s why we want to raise as much as possible to support Child Bereavement UK’s valuable work.

Ann Chalmers, Chief Executive at Child Bereavement UK said:

We are immensely grateful to have been chosen by Busy Bees as their charity partner until 2020, and we are delighted that our Elephant’s Tea Party initiative is being used to launch the partnership. The support of Busy Bees will enable Child Bereavement UK to provide support many more bereaved children, young people and families across the UK.”

About Busy Bees
The first Busy Bees nursery – The Rocklands in Lichfield – was opened in 1984, by three couples who were dissatisfied with the childcare options available to them. Two of the founders, Marg Randles (chief academic officer) and John Woodward (president), are still working full time in the business.

Today, Busy Bees is the UK’s leading provider of quality childcare, looking after 35,000 children across the country, in 344 nurseries. Committed to providing quality care for every child in a safe, caring environment, Busy Bees meets each child’s individual social, physical and emotional needs.

As well as 344 nurseries in the UK, Busy Bees also operates two children’s centres and an independent primary school. In 2013, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan invested in the business, enabling Busy Bees to expand internationally. In early 2015, 70 Knowledge Universe nurseries across Singapore and Malaysia and Singapore’s Asian International College became part of the Busy Bees family, followed by BrightPath in Canada last year.
