This week, Busy Bees nurseries across the UK will hold an Elephant’s Tea Party to launch its partnership with charity, Child Bereavement UK, which will run until 2020.

The Elephant’s Tea Party is the charity’s bereavement awareness initiative, which uses the symbol of an elephant and the theme ‘an elephant never forgets’ and ‘an elephant in the room’ to help children understand bereavement in an age-appropriate way.

Children and staff will be raising money by making elephant masks, decorating elephant themed cakes and taking part in fun, creative activities to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age passes away, or when a child is facing bereavement. The charity also trains professionals such as doctors, teachers and midwives to help them better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

In our role as early years caregivers, we know that bereavement is extremely difficult for a child to understand and can have a significant impact on their development. That’s why we want to raise as much as possible to support Child Bereavement UK’s valuable work.
