Supporting children with special educational needs through loss and bereavement requires additional skills and knowledge. This course explores effective communication styles and specific challenges in supporting children who have autism.

Who should attend?

All those whose work brings them into contact with grieving children and young people with special educational needs.

Learning outcomes

You will:

  • To gain an understanding of how children and young people experience, understand and respond to bereavement at different developmental levels.
  • To increase awareness of the additional challenges faced by bereaved children and young people with autism.
  • To develop confidence in providing support to, and communicating with, bereaved children and young people with special educational needs and autism.
  • To increase awareness of our own needs when supporting bereaved children and young people with special educational needs.
  • To gain information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations and resources available.

Cost: £45

We encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Our training is not usually suited to anyone who has suffered a recent, significant personal loss or bereavement.
