Child Bereavement UK has released its 2017-18 impact report as an animated film. The film highlights the impact that the charity has made supporting families and educating professionals when a child grieves and when a child dies.

The report shows how the charity has provided face-to-face bereavement support to more than 3,000 children, young people and adults from its services across the UK, including from the Grenfell community – an overall increase of 37% vs the previous year.  It also saw a significant increase in calls to its helpline which responded to more than 6,000 enquiries, up 42%. The charity trained almost 10,000 professionals – including teachers, midwives, doctors, emergency services and social workers – helping them to better understand and meet the needs of bereaved families. In 2018 the charity also celebrated training its 100,000^thprofessional since it began in 1994.

Other activities include the charity’s award-winning #OneMoreMinute campaign featuring bereaved families and celebrities including Mary Berry, Jason Watkins, Rio Ferdinand, Joey Essex and Marina and Ben Fogle, which reached more than 7 million viewers.

The report closes with a message from the charity’s Royal Patron, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, thanking supporters for their generosity.

In the report, Child Bereavement UK highlights the need for support, having just released the latest baby and child death statistics which show that in the UK 2017*:

• 7653 babies, children and young people (under the age of 18) died – 21 every day

Child Bereavement UK’s Communications Director, Jane Keightley, said: “By making a short film this year, we aim to reach current supporters and a wider, new audience, in a more impactful, efficient and effective way. The film is intended to both thank supporters and inspire others to find out more about the need for bereavement support and the services Child Bereavement UK offers.”
