Team IPES share what has inspired the group of friends from London to take part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride in aid of Child Bereavement UK.

Team IPES comprises Paolo Stewart, Sagar Patel, Jordan Richards, Kieran Sutton, Nile Thomas, Kelvin Veeramootoo, Bob Sutton, Darren Cummings, Omar Bingham, and Sarah Adenuga. We all live in Tottenham in London.

We were inspired to take part in the London to Brighton bike ride after losing a very close friend, Ira, who was an avid cyclist - we’re doing the event in his honour. Ira was a father, partner, health-professional and friend. He was a huge lover of sports, health, family and the greater good. He had an indomitable passion for life, and we want to continue his vibrant legacy by raising funds for charity through doing the things he loved to do!

The London to Brighton Bicycle Ride is challenging so it’s a great way to get fit over the summer, and we’re doing it for a great cause. To prepare we ride often as a group, sometimes up to three times a week covering 60 miles on average. Training this often ensures we are preparing in the right way as well as making sure we prevent any injuries, and, as well as getting fitter, we get to spend time together as a group.

The support from Child Bereavement UK has been great. The events team is always there to help when we have any questions and assisted us in sorting out some logistical issues we had early on in the application, which was extremely helpful. They also arranged some charity cycling jerseys for us, which are great!

If you’re thinking of taking on a challenge, I’d recommend getting plenty of training in early- it helps you get into the groove. Every little bit of training helps no matter if you are a novice rider or ride quite often.
