Jane Downward, from Warrington in Cheshire, came up with a unique way of supporting Child Bereavement UK by donating a tea set (pictured) which had been passed down from her mother who had, in turn, been passed the same tea set from her mother, Jane’s Grandma. The donation has been made in support of the charity’s new event called #MakeforMum, an initiatve to celebrate and remember mothers everywhere, or for mums to remember their children this Mother’s Day.

Jane said:

I am donating this very special tea set to support #MakeforMum and Child Bereavement UK because I have experienced first hand over the last 3 years how the charity has helped and supported my friend Julie and her daughter Lauren since they lost their beloved husband and dad, Chris. I didn’t realise that charities like Child Bereavement UK existed until Julie and Lauren started using their services and it is great to know that they are helping many other families to rebuild their lives following the loss of a child or parent.

Child Bereavement UK launched the #MakeforMum event last month with the support of Marjorie Barlow, mum of Take That’s Gary Barlow.  The charity is encouraging  people across the country to host events and share pictures on the day whilst helping to raise money and awareness for the charity. The local bereavement service in Runcorn is hosting an event for the families it has supported throughout the year on Sunday 26th and Julie is hoping her donation will make the Mother’s Day event extra special and add a touch of class to the occasion.

I had kept the tea service for over 10 years in a box not really wanting to part with it because it represented very fond memories of my Grandma Elizabeth who was my mum’s Mum. My Grandma kept the tea set under lock and key in a yew display cabinet and it was only used for special occasions. I’m not sure how old it is but Grandma was born in 1892!

Mother’s Day can be a particularly difficult time when a mum, dad, grandparent, baby or child in their family has died. By taking part in #MakeforMum and fundraising for Child Bereavement UK, you can help the charity to reach many more families who may need bereavement support around occasions such as Mother’s Day and throughout the year.

Mother’s Day falls on 26th March this year, but you can hold your own #MakeforMum event whenever suits you best in the run up to the day. From creating a special meal, making tea, baking, making candles or cards, to holding a fundraising cake sale for friends or colleagues, you are invited to join in, get creative and host your own #MakeforMum event.

Share your pictures using the #MakeforMum hash tag or text MUMS02 £10 to 70070 to donate and make a real difference. (£10 is used here as an example, you can insert any amount you choose)
