BAFTA award-winning and Olivier Award-nominated stage, film and television actor, Jason Watkins, has become a Patron of Child Bereavement UK. The charity supports families and educates professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.

Watkins is a much-loved face of British drama; he recently appeared as Solomon Coop in Taboo, Tim Ifield in Line of Duty and Mr Humphries in the tribute to Are You Being Served. He also played Simon Harwood in W1A, Herrick in Being Human, Gavin in Trollied, and Gordon Shakespeare in the Nativity! film series. His lead role in two-part drama The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies won him the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor of 2015.

Very sadly, Jason and his wife Clara’s two-and-a half-year-old daughter Maude died of sepsis in 2011. He dedicated his 2015 BAFTA award to her and has actively campaigned to raise awareness of sepsis and its symptoms. Jason is also an Ambassador of UK Sepsis Trust.

On becoming Patron of Child Bereavement UK, Jason said:

The physical and emotional trauma of losing your child is overwhelming, but Child Bereavement UK provide a touchstone that you can access, giving you practical tools to help you carry your loss with you as you move forward. Child Bereavement UK’s work supporting bereaved families is vital and I am delighted to help raise awareness of their important work.

Child Bereavement UK offers support to bereaved children, young people and their families via its national helpline and from its bases in Cheshire, Cumbria, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, Glasgow and London.
