Free wellbeing training for doctors

Child Bereavement UK has been funded by BMA Giving to deliver online training aimed at helping doctors maintain their wellbeing while working in the face of loss, grief, and bereavement. The webinars will focus in particular on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the mental wellbeing of health professionals.

The pandemic has put healthcare professionals in an even more challenging situation than usual, often having to make difficult decisions and working under extreme pressures in unprecedented circumstances. The 60-minute webinars will explore the factors that increase the risk of mental health problems among doctors, the impact of Covid-19, signs of stress and burnout, aiming to help doctors gain greater awareness of the impact of stress on them as professionals.

The training has been developed by Child Bereavement UK, a charity which helps children and young people (aged under 25), parents, and families, to rebuild their lives when a child dies or when a child grieves. The charity also provides bereavement training and has trained more than 135,000 professionals including doctors, nurses and midwives, helping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved children and parents.

“Doctors face pressures on a daily basis, but these have been overlaid with additional challenges due to Covid-19. High levels of stress should not be something doctors simply accept as an occupational hazard, and we hope this training will help them to develop coping strategies.”

The 60-minute, free webinars are being offered to doctors at a number of dates and times from November 2020 onwards.
