Child Bereavement UK Patron Lang Lang

Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Lang Lang has become a Patron of Child Bereavement UK, a charity which supports families and educates professionals both when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, and when a child is facing bereavement.

Lang Lang became a friend of Child Bereavement UK in 2021 when his foundation, The Lang Lang International Music Foundation formed a partnership with the charity to bring music to bereaved children and young people as a creative way to help them express their feelings and talk about their experiences. Lang Lang also recorded a filmed message and piano performance with the beneficiaries of the charity.

The Lang Lang International Music Foundation also donated a piano to the charity; musician and band leader Jools Holland treated families supported by Child Bereavement UK to a special performance and introduced Lang Lang who joined the presentation via video call from Shanghai.

Lang Lang joins a number of other well-known Patrons of Child Bereavement UK including Claudia Winkleman, Ben Fogle, Nick Knowles, Alan Titchmarsh, Gary Barlow, Jason Watkins, Joey Essex, Rio and Kate Ferdinand, and Mary Berry. HRH The Duke of Cambridge became Child Bereavement UK’s Royal Patron in 2009.

On becoming Patron, Lang Lang said:

I am delighted to become a patron of this wonderful organisation. I have always believed that music has the power to heal our hearts and bring people together, and it has been such a privilege for all of us at the Lang Lang Foundation to be able to bring musical experiences to Child Bereavement UK. I look forward to doing many more wonderful things together.

Child Bereavement UK’s Chief Executive, Ann Chalmers, said:

We are thrilled to welcome Lang Lang as a Patron of Child Bereavement UK. His support will help raise awareness of the needs of bereaved children, young people, parents and families to a global audience.
