Royal Princes visit Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry visited the Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub in North Kensington*, a partnership of charities offering a range of support, counselling and advice for children, young people, parents and families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub was established by the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to provide a dedicated space for various agencies and community groups to continue working collaboratively, to reach out to other statutory and voluntary organisations, hold meetings and organise counselling and supervision. There is also space for children and families in the community to come in and speak to the organisations represented.

During their visit, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry met representatives from the Hub’s partnership organisations including Child Bereavement UK, Place2Be, Winston’s Wish and The Art Room, who are working together with local partners, schools, children’s centres and community groups responding to the needs of those impacted by the fire. Their Royal Highnesses also met with members of the Grenfell community, including families directly affected by the fire and school head teachers, together with representatives of other statutory and voluntary organisations such as CAMHS, ClementJames Centre, Rugby Portobello Trust and the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre (Al-Manaar), who are working with the charities to ensure there is specialist long-term support in place to help the community into the future.

Child Bereavement UK has been operating a bereavement service in West London since 2012 supporting families bereaved of a child. The charity responded to the Grenfell Tower fire initially by providing training support and consultation sessions for schools in the community. Having established a relationship with the ClementJames Centre in North Kensington, Child Bereavement UK is also providing training and individual consultation for their staff as well as support for bereaved children, young people and families at drop-in sessions. In partnership with Winston’s Wish, Child Bereavement UK is also running parenting groups and group support for young people on alternate weeks at ClementJames, and will be able to offer individual, couple, family and group support through the Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub (www.support4grenfell.com).

The Duke of Cambridge, who has been Royal Patron of Child Bereavement UK since 2009, met with organisations offering bereavement and emotional support to the community. Ann Chalmers, Chief Executive of Child Bereavement UK said:

It is great to have The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry visit the Support 4 Grenfell Community Hub, to meet family members who have been directly impacted as well as some of the organisations involved in providing therapeutic support to families affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower. This visit will undoubtedly help highlight the great needs of those who are facing the devastation of bereavement in this community, and the support that is available.
