Runcorn shoppers provide toys for bereaved children

Child Bereavement UK will be hosting a Christmas get-together for bereaved families who have attended the charity’s support groups in Runcorn.

The party on Wednesday 21^st December at Child Bereavement UK’s base in Runcorn will have food, drinks and games, and gifts being given out by Mr Father Christmas himself! It is exclusively for families who have attended Child Bereavement UK’s Family Support Groups in 2016.

Child Bereavement UK’s Family Support Groups allow bereaved families the opportunity to get together in a safe and friendly environment. Children aged 4-12 can meet other bereaved children with their adult carers and express their feelings through play and creative activities in facilitated groups with trained bereavement support practitioners.

Mayor of Halton, Councillor Ged Philpin, will be in attendance on the day, along with staff from the Runcorn Shopping Centre who have been donating toys and gifts for this year’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

Child Bereavement UK was one of five charities being supported by the Toy Appeal and will be donating gifts to children and families across the North West whom they have been supporting throughout 2016.

Child Bereavement UK offers free bereavement support to children, young people and families across the county. North West Fundraising Officer Seb Farrell said:

The families we have supported often tell us how Christmas can be a difficult time of year for them when someone in the family had died. Our Christmas party will be a wonderful way of showing our ongoing support for bereaved families as well as bringing the community together. We have been inundated with gifts this year thanks to the Toy Appeal and the ongoing support from being the Mayor of Halton’s Charity of the Year. Thanks to all this generosity, we will be able to support even more bereaved children and families in 2017.

In the UK, when a baby or child dies, or a child is bereaved, many of those affected are unable to access good quality support which meets their individual needs.
