Get involved Fundraise for us Hear from our fundraisers Shaun Shaun shares why he’s taking on a series of challenges to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK. Do the challenge! Make yourself and your loved ones proud! In 2022, my daughter died aged 31 - I felt myself sinking with grief after my loss and needed something to focus on. I’m Sensei at Portsmouth Knight Karate Club; I train and teach karate and am quite fit for my age, so I decided to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK by taking on a series of challenges. I’ve abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower, completed the Welsh and Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenges, and I’m now booked to do a 10k Tough Mudder in May. Taking on challenges has made me mentally stronger; I took on the mountain challenges with a group of male friends and the banter, camaraderie and support was just what I needed. Portsmouth Knight Karate Club have also held events to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK and my wife Holly is climbing Snowdon soon in support of the charity. I also successfully nominated Child Bereavement UK to be Charity of the Year for the Karate Union of Great Britain. Child Bereavement UK’s fundraising team has been in constant contact with my wife providing support when needed. If you are thinking of going for a challenge to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK, my advice is to just go for it. Unfortunately, I'm aware of how short and precious life is, and also how fragile your mental health can be. Do the challenge! Make yourself and your loved ones proud!
