Online training for professionals | 3 hours | Intermediate training


This training session covers the specific needs of bereaved and grieving autistic children and young people. During the course you will learn that grief is inclusive. All children, regardless of their age, cognitive ability, and/or physical skills, are affected by a bereavement.

Who is this training for?

This session is appropriate for any professionals working with bereaved autistic children and young people. Including professionals working in mainstream and specialist schools; keyworkers and members of a welfare or pastoral support team; SENCO; and others directly supporting bereaved young people as well as senior leaders, governors and policy makers. It is also suitable for those working with young people within the education sector including therapists, health care teams, nurses and other support staff. 

What will I learn?

This training includes:

  • The barriers autistic children and young people face to receiving bereavement support and how you can overcome these.

  • How autistic children and young people are affected by grief.

  • How autistic children and young people communicate their grief.

  • The importance of language, processing time and practical strategies to supporting autistic children and young people who are bereaved.

  • Information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations and resources available.
