This online training explores how loss, grief and bereavement impacts on children, young people and their families who are seeking asylum in the UK. It is designed to help those working with asylum-seeking and refugee families to gain an insight and understanding into how best to provide support.

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for individuals whose work brings them into contact with refugees and asylum seekers, for example: health and social care staff, faith leaders, emergency services staff, refugee agencies, and charities.

What will I learn?

During this training, you will:

  • Increase your awareness of how children, young people and families may understand and respond to grief and bereavement. 

  • Consider the particular factors that may affect refugees and asylum-seekers who have experienced bereavement.

  • Explore different cultural responses to loss and mourning.

  • Acknowledge the impact of trauma.

  • Develop your knowledge of practical strategies and gain greater confidence in supporting bereaved families.

  • Develop an awareness of the challenges of the work and the importance of looking after yourself.

  • Receive information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations, and resources available.
