This online training will explore the experience of bereavement for children and young people in the care system and what is needed to support them in their grief.

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for individuals whose work brings them into contact with grieving children and young people in the care system, for example: health and social care staff, care home staff, foster carers, education professionals, faith leaders, emergency service personnel, and charities.

What will I learn?

During this training, you will:

  • Increase your awareness of how children and young people understand and respond to loss, death, and bereavement, across all age ranges.

  • Gain an understanding of the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that accompany grief for children in the care system.

  • Consider how the experience of children in the care system may be affected by bereavement. 

  • Develop knowledge of practical strategies and gain greater confidence in supporting bereaved children and young people. 

  • Consider particular challenges faced by unaccompanied minors/refugees.

  • Identify ways of looking after yourself and recognise why this is important.

  • Receive information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations, and resources available.
