Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for individuals whose work brings them into contact with families after a child has died, for example: doctors, nurses, midwives, mortuary and pathology staff, health and social care staff, Child Death Review professionals, hospice staff, faith leaders, police and coroners’ officers, and all those working in bereavement support roles within the NHS.

Separate training about the Child Death Review process is also available. 

What will I learn?

During this training, you will:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding about what happens at a paediatric post-mortem and the different types of post-mortem examination.

  • Increase your confidence in talking to bereaved parents about post-mortem examination.

  • Explore sensitive issues such as consent and the retention of tissue.

  • Identify ways of looking after yourself and recognise why this is important.

  • Receive information about Child Bereavement UK and other support organisations, and resources available.
